A Tasteless Misconception

There is a misconception about vodka, Los Angeles restaurateur and vodkateur Larry Nicola believes. Even though “vodka” stems from “voda,” the Russian word for water, not all vodkas are tasteless, Nicola insists.

“If you select the right vodka, keep the bottle in the freezer and also freeze the glass, you can savor the distinct taste – whether it be a vodka distilled from rye, wheat, potatoes or other sources,” said Nicola, whose restaurant, Nic’s Beverly Hills (www.nicsbeverlyhills.com), is a haven for vodka connoisseurs.

Take, for example, the signature martini that Nicola offers at his restaurant. Featuring Kauffman, which he calls the world's most luxurious vodka, Nicola has created a martini that is served in its purest form with no fancy fusions, mixers or added flavors. Served in specially designed mouth-blown and handcarved glasses created by artist, Michael Weems, the Kauffman Martini is exclusive to Nic’s and carries a price tag of $150, glass included. The glasses alone are collectibles. No two are alike, and they retail at $85 each.
